Hello - just in case any of you missed the featured presentation of WaterWayBabies last month, I would like to share with you that I have several customers on NC. And I need your help to reach more parents and therapists so more kiddos can benefit f…
This group has been created for ongoing connection/sharing among participants at the Durham, NC Aquatic Therapy for the Child Seminar offered by ARN March 19-21, 2009
Whether you are doing research, interested in doing it, wishing it were being done, or just wondering whether it's useful - this is the place to share your ideas and issues and questions.
I've been an avid swimmer all my life. Lifeguard in high school. Taught swimming to kids ages 4-18 in Canada through the CRC when I lived in Toronto and couldn't get a nursing job. This experience paired with my NICU career taking care of preemies led me to develop the concept that is the construct behind WaterWayBabies.
Your discipline or title (PT, OT, CTRS, ATC, SLP, Watsu practitioner, adapted aquatics instructor, whatever!)
I am a BSN RN. My WSI is inactive. I'm also SCUBA certified, advanced. I currently working on my PhD in nursing.
Location (city, state, country)
Houston, TX, USA
What temperature, depth(s) and approx dimensions is your therapy pool (if you have one):
The pool I sell to parents is 30 inches tall and 30 inches deep, made of heavy plastic with a drain at the bottom. It comes with a water thermometer that shows the parent how warm to make the water.
Do you have any teaching experience?
Yes, as mentioned above, I taught kids all ages, but that was a long time ago. After that I taught infant swimming for several years, including my own two kids. More recently, I have been working with adults on an individual basis for stroke improvement and technique. This is on the side in addition to my business, WaterWayBabies.
Main patient populations:
Peds
What unique products or services do you offer:
WaterWayBabies is a very unique, effective, and inexpensive ($90+shipping) for parents to use at home as an adjunct to traditional therapeutic and aquatic interventions.
Hi! I haven't started a project yet. I am out of the water for work temporarily because of pregnency (and moving - so need to set up a new low chemical pool.) So things are on hold and changing. But looking forward to seeing how it will open back up again. I would love to hear how things are going for you and what you are doing. Good luck!!!

Hi Nancy and a warm welcome. At some point it would be great to see a 'Swimming' Group here as there are several like you. It's best if one of our members creates that. Quite easy - you just follow the Groups tab above. You might feel shy of starting off with that right away but you could! You can search using Advanced Search under the Member tab above for folk with shared interests. Of course, we all love water!
I have known of persons who sponsored and taught caregivers and those being given care to share Watsu(R)
It provides a sense of sharing and giving back for the caregiver to receive....
Other thought: to provide another opportunity nearby for the car…
This group is for discussions about the practice and promotion of aquatic bodywork in spas, other leisure settings, and private venues. A place to share some of the issues faced and support each other.
For pediatric aquatic therapists/instructors who work with children on the autism spectrum. We will be sharing our coolest treatment ideas and creating a mock protocol for the infant, toddler, and school aged child demonstrating autism traits.
