I do not know if I ever responded to your message. The child I work with has Cerebral Palsy.
I tried to read your blog article but could not understand the english very well. Do you have a version in Spanish(is spanish your primary language?) If so I would love to see that.
Thank you!

Glad you liked the photos of Codey..his sessions are always (well almost) so joyful and it seems it shows in the photos. As far as techniques I use lots of healing dance...waves and stretches, watsu and aquatic integration stretches and holds...and am also a structural integration practitioner (hellerwork) so weave in myofascial release techniques...great to be able to 'hook' into tissue and use movement/waves to gently get release...also find the si concepts really useful for working with imblances in muscle and structure of the whole body....and then of course there is the unspoken communicaiton /dance that happens as well, which seems to me to be a really important element (always), but especially with receivers who have limted verbal communciation.
Am currently putting together a dvd of working with people with cerebral palsy, autism, high pain levels and other disabilities...so would love to hear any of your experiences/comments ...it seems you have a lot of experience in this area....

I only do watsu/healing dance, not the other aquatic therapies, so I don't know many of the techniques you probably use.
thanks,
Laura
I saw Ifat wrote you as well. We work at the same hospital. We treat children mainly according to the Halliwick concept. I have developed an evaluation forms for adjustment & function in the water according to the Halliwick concept. You can check the August issue of IJARE and you'll find my paper.
Regards, Ruthy
I would love to share expriences, What kind of children do you work with? I mostly have handicapped children so the Bobath concept really helps me.
Take care,
Yifat
Welcome to the group! I am looking for some ideas and quotes for an article I am doing on aquatics and the autistic child.
Any chance you could give me a true story (fun, silly, sad, whatever has a passion about it) about working with an autistic child to address one of the following:
1. Body awareness or kinesthesia
2. Hypersensitivity
I am also looking for 1-2 specific activities to address these deficits. The more detail about the task, the more it will help therapists repeat your ideas.
Thanks so much! Answer directly to this comment wall or you can send an email to me (asalzman@aquaticnet.com)
