I worked in an adult community with a small pool. There was a pull chain on the ramp going down into the pool. It was accessible from the body of the pool, as well as from the ramp. These were installed after the pool was built. Every once in a whil…
Currently I teach 5 days a week at the local community center pool and provide aquatic personal training at that location upon request. The 1-on-1 work is the closest I get to 'aquatic therapy.' I am not medically qualified to provide any type of therapy, rather I provide aquatic training services to improve individual's overall fitness.
By being listed at this site and via the ATRIC site I get about 4 calls a year asking me if I can help local people get 'aquatic therapy' or 'aquatic training.' Usually the individual's doctor has told them they need to get in a pool with a therapist, but the doc does not know of any resources in the immediate area. I refer people to UNC's Wellness Center or Duke's Lennox Baker facilities for aquatic Physical Therapy. Then, if the clients are discharged and want a 'tune-up' or individual training, they contact me and I'll provide 1-on-1 services...And that is the closest I get to Aquatic Therapy :)

Hi Meg,
I actually don't work at Lakeshore anymore, and have gone back to school at Elon Univ. to get a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. Let me know what questions you have about personal training in the pool. I don't do it anymore, but may still be able to help you.
Take care,
Dana
I am not a PT either, but I have vowed to pursue my dream onch both of my children are in school! I have my BS in Exercise Physiology with my background in aquatics and rehab. I currently work part time as a PT tech in an Aquatic PT clinic in Raleigh and I am a part-time stay at home Mom of 2 boys (ages 3 1/2 and 5 1/2 who just started Kindergarten in Aug)...that is definitely the most rewarding (and extremely difficult) job I have! I'm not sure how much you want to teach classes (or how much you want to commute), but there is a FANTASTIC aquatics center that just opened in Cary. I know that they are looking for qualified instructors. feel free to email me eagifford@gmail.com! :-)
HI! Thanks for dropping me a line! Where do you practice? How long have you been in the area? I moved to Cary nearly a year ago and I LOVE it!! :-) Keep in touch!
I have known of persons who sponsored and taught caregivers and those being given care to share Watsu(R)
It provides a sense of sharing and giving back for the caregiver to receive....
Other thought: to provide another opportunity nearby for the car…
This group is for discussions about the practice and promotion of aquatic bodywork in spas, other leisure settings, and private venues. A place to share some of the issues faced and support each other.
For pediatric aquatic therapists/instructors who work with children on the autism spectrum. We will be sharing our coolest treatment ideas and creating a mock protocol for the infant, toddler, and school aged child demonstrating autism traits.
