Profile Information

How are you involved in aquatic therapy?
I have experienced a few sessions only, Inika once and mostly with Minakshi during my WATSU 1 & 2 course where I experienced something of a release......which has made me continually wonder at the potential of this type of healing. I have been in touch with Mary Theri and Basia Szpak and their work in Hungary with the orphans, which I would like to visit as a volunteer if I can get away from home obligations. More importantly, I have a 10yr old 'Special Needs Child - BESD- (complex Behavioural Social Difficulties) who I hope would benefit totally from this if there can be anyway to begin to integrate this into his young life.
I would like to participate in the forum and to receive insights into your work if possible as I am trying my utmost to work towards becoming such a therapist in the not too distant future.
Your discipline or title (PT, OT, CTRS, ATC, SLP, Watsu practitioner, adapted aquatics instructor, whatever!)
Trainee WATSU practitioner ( only having completed Watsu 1 & 2) Hoping to participate in May in Mary Theri's Aquatherics.
Will complete my Sports Massage Therapist exam in July this year.
I am a Master Instructor in Breath-hold diving (FREEDIVING) for 12 years prior to this.
Location (city, state, country)
Chippenham, Wiltshire, England (for the time being)
What temperature, depth(s) and approx dimensions is your therapy pool (if you have one):
IT has been almost impossible to find one in the UK. There is a pool option on very restricted basis in Swindon, The Thamesdown Hydrotherapy pool.....1.6 - 1.2 m , 34 degrees
Do you have any teaching experience?
Would like to be involved in Trauma release therapy one day!
Main patient populations:
both

Maria-Teresa,
Baisa proposed coming here to Gainesville, FL; I asked the Birth Center and the Children's Home Society (CHS) about the possibilities of funding her presentation(s). It was disheartening as I already knew what the answer would be. I am still in discussion wtih CHS and the Birth Center. We will be trying to organize a community awareness event with Wastu demos and intros. It may have to be at a private home as warm pools here are scarce. I am researching funding sources and the possibilities of building my own
pool here at my home. I am focused and passionate about Watsu!

Good to hear from you and I'm glad you are in touch with the 'locals'. I know it's difficult. Seem to be a lot of new and quite fancy looking wellness/spa centers developing in the are though?

You might be interested in this article on my own blog about my experience working at Thermae Bath Spa back in 2007. They were actually very accommodating to me but I could see that it would be a long push to get the kind of issues I talk about in that article covered.

What still astonished me was the positive response people had to the Watsu even if it was something many of them signed up for as a 'last choice' when everything else familiar was booked up. However, to facilitate that I think you need more experienced practitioners than they are likely to have under their current schema.

Hello Maria-Teresa - you live just down the road from my family home in the UK (Marshfield). Great to meet you and see you here. I am now living in the US (permanent resident).

Do you know Hilary Austin (Corsham) and Jem Tayle (Bath)? They are both members here. Search on their names to visit their profiles.

Basia has been doing trainings at the Thermae Bath Spa (she is a member here also).

Click on Groups and join the Aquatic Trauma Healing one as this is one of your interests. Me too - I'm just back from Harbin visiting with Inika and Diane and will be writing about that on my own blog soon.

Welcome again, Sulis

I have known of persons who sponsored and taught caregivers and those being given care to share Watsu(R) It provides a sense of sharing and giving back for the caregiver to receive.... Other thought: to provide another opportunity nearby for the car…
