Change is constant

Seems that Watsu has become a larger percentage of my practice recently. Though the economic downturn has reduced overall business by 30% to 60%, the ratio of land to water based work is shifting more toward a 50/50 split. In the projected business plan, at 5 years out, which is where I am at right now, these are the goals I have been aiming for. Owning a pool has it's advantages and disadvantages, overhead is always an issue as well as being a high end consumer of energy for which I have person… Continue

Investigation into solar pool heating

I have been on the phone and internet to investigate funding sources and incentives for installing a solar water heating system to my pool to mitigate the environmental and financial impact to my business. I replied to a post here about pool efficiency and it got me curious about the possibilities. After a couple days of internet browsing I found incentive programs and tax exemptions for solar hot water systems are only for the household use, pools and hot tubs don't qualify. Therefore I am not… Continue

It's FIXED finally.

It's so hard to find a pool guy that is reliable when you need them. I knew it was too good to be true.I heard that it would be fixed and he wanted to rent it to do his water therapy clients. I patiently tried to deal with him and the job wasn't getting done very well, pipes kept leaking. yuck! I was in a delema of 1 using the certified pool installer to keep the warranty on the heater I was installing valid or 2 using my friend who can fix anything for way less money. Well I got to use both and… Continue

Fixing pool

I have been literally grounded, my pool heater went out and it's taken a long time to get it fixed. I researched and ordered a heavy duty replacement so they had to build it. That was when I was under the impression that this process was only going to take a couple of weeks. I surrendered to time and money requirements and am still looking at a couple more days 6 weeks later (good thing I do massage too)
I fortuitiously met a person interested in renting the pool for excersise therapy clients an… Continue

Hi I am new.

thought I would introduce myself, I am Kim I am living my dream of introducing Watsu to our rural Humboldt county Ca. being only one of 2 therapists up here, poses many challenges to the continued inspiration for my work. I get a reawakening when I hit that magical combination of floating someone just right, seeing their profound shift in being, making it all worth the years of training, house buying, pool building, marketing and all those first time sessions with people. I have a deep gratitude… Continue

Great, thanks so much!

I, too understand about waiting it out. The pool I use was one of many rooms in the retirement home where it resides that was flooded due to frozen water sprinkler pipes! Luckily the pool itself was not damaged. My good friend, Brett taught me the "cowgirl up" mantra. I'll go with that!

I am just starting out, a reporter is about to try this tomorrow, then write about it in the local paper. Fingers crossed that she relays it well to the reader. My next plan of attack is to go directly to referral sources. Doctors and PT's.

I am thrilled to be able to connect with you all on here, this is truely uplifting!

Thanks again, and congrats on the upswing in your business!

Hello Kim

Your responses to the 'aquatic healers questionnaire' are just what I was looking for - thank you!

I have a couple of questions:

When did you introduced aquatic work into your practice (year)?

Are you the sole therapist in your private practice?

I have taken note of the marketing issue, which I agree is very important, and will be covering that in a future posting on the Aquapoetics blog 'In the Flow' which you are subscribing to.

This will also be included the the E-book I am writing about setting up an aquatic practice. I think that your approach of keeping interested and trying out different things (re marketing) is an excellent one.

In fact that is what really comes through in your responses ... that you have been very thoughtful about what you do, and remain passionate about it. People pick up on that.

I will hope to post your profile later this week, as I am out of my office for the first few days of the week.

Thanks again, Kim. In the flow, Sulis

HI Kim,
SO wonderful to see your dreams manifesting! Congratulations on creating your pool. Just returned from teaching Watsu 2 at harbin. I am continually amazed at the depth and insight of people who are drawn to this work. I am off soon to share this in a spa training in Istanbul.

Hello Kim:

I enjoyed reading your postings as they reflect how so many people feel when they share and receive Watsu. I'm looking forward to seeing more dialog about that here. Glad to note that you joined the Aquatic Bodyworkers group too.

Thanks also for posting photos of your venue. One of the biggest challenges for Watsu people is finding or creating places in which to practice. This is perhaps a topic for another Group (called 'Private pool facilities' and covering set up and running etc.?).

If you would like to take the plunge so to speak and start this (or a group of another topic that interests you) please do consider that. I'll be posting more ideas for groups soon and also information on how to do this (though that is all on the site also).

For those who do not know - Harbin Hot Springs referred to by Kim is where Watsu was developed by Harold Dull and where many of the trainings happen. You can find out more here WATSU.

Glad to have your input Kim, Sulis

Just got back form Harbin... I get the inspiration to come home and keep introducing Watsu to people here in Humboldt. The new cold plunge has the greatest jets, my teeth were chattering before I got out more than once.
I give a lot of introduction sessions, one first experience with watsu, he described feeling his spirit being kept expanding, beyond even the water. This person took quite a while to return enough to open his eyes. It's great to have this feedback after a session.
