I treat alot of children on the Autistic Spectrum in the water. I do individual therapy sessions, small groups and parent-child classes. I look forward to sharing ideas and treatment strategies.

This is a question to all of you: I am a watsu practitioner w/healing dance emphasis, and have one 4 year old client who is autisitic. She is very active in the water, and I feel that mostly I'm just playing with her, a little massage sometimes and occasionally she relaxes for a minute. I feel that I am lacking skills to be very therapuetically helpful for her. Does anyone have any ideas for me on how to work with her more effectively?

I am interested in starting to work with kids that have Autistic Spectrum in my area. Any suggestions with any material I could read?
And anybody that has had results with Watsu and Autism?
Thanks

Here is an inspiring article describing how joining a high school swimming team has helped autistic teenagers to connect more: Autistic Waunakee High School swimmers speak volumes in the pool. For me water is such a healer, such a profound communicator, and this story add to that message beautifully!

Thank you for this group and the interesting discussions.  I work with a student population of which the majority are identified with characteristics along the fascinating yet complex & often mysterious realm of autism.  Reading suggestions & experiences here adds fuel to my interest and putting in my own warm pool and opening some new possibilities for interacting with this special population in a liquid oasis.
