I'll post my question soon, but feel the need to at least introduce myself.
I have been teaching aquatic fitness classes since 1996 and started to provide aquatic personal training in 1998. My certifications have been with AEA - for classes & personal training. When AEA decided to discontinue the personal training cert, I did not want to pursue a land based credential.
My family and I moved from South Florida to the Chapel Hill, NC [home of UNC Tar Heels] in 2001. Compared to South Florida, there is not as much work here for aqua aerobics instructors and even less for aquatic personal trainers. Over time I decided to get study for the ACSM personal trainer certification because it provides a 'career path' of sorts - personal trainer, then health fitness instructor - and [hopefully] to eventually go from part time work to full time employment.
Anyway, I passed the ACSM certified Personal Trainer earlier this year, but then injured my right shoulder and had an anterior reconstruction of it in August. It has been a dry time [in many ways] since then -- but I just started to teach one class a day in 12/07. I hope to return to aquatic personal training soon -- just waiting for my PT & surgeon to give me the all-clear.
I would love to learn more about the rest of our group. Hope to hear from you!
